The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MSJ&E), together with the Calcutta Metropolitan Institute of Gerontology (CMIG) under the leadership of Director Dr. Indrani Chakravorty and Samagra Seva Kendra, Bihar, headed by Secretary Cheddi Peasad, conducted a series of programmes focused on enhancing the wellbeing of senior citizens and fostering stronger intergenerational bonds.Awareness and Sensitization programme on promoting intergenerational bonding in school was organised at National Town Inter School, Aurangabad district in Bihar. 60 students engaged in drawing and essay competitions that highlighted their perspectives on empathy and mutual respect between generations. Cash prizes were awarded to the top three entries in each category. The programme was supported by school representatives Santosh Kumar and Dayananda Kumar in their role as a resource person. Many highlighted that such programmes help them understand the emotional needs of senior citizens, promote compassion and improve communication with elders at home and in their neighbourhoods. The creative platforms of drawing and essay competitions allowed students to express their feelings freely, offering meaningful insights into how young people perceive ageing, caregiving and intergenerational connection.
