A Brief Report Sikkim Senior Citizens’ Foundation reaches out to Care Giving Centres in the State in coordination with Women, Child, Senior Citizen and Divyangjan Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim.
The Sikkim Senior Citizens’ Foundation, in coordination with Women, Child, Senior Citizen and Divyangjan Welfare Department, under the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana conducted a Swachhta Abhiyan programme and Plantation drive under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ at two designated places on 17th and 18th October.
On 17th October, the President and Members of the Foundation participated in the cleanliness and plantation drive at Old Age Home, Boomtar, Namchi. The drive had the presence and participation of Shri KN Sharma, President SSCF, and Members Dr. Vijay Singhi, Shri Hem Chhetri, Shri GD Giri, Shri CN Sharma, Shri SS Timsina, along with Shri Shyam Pradhan Social Welfare Officer Namchi, Shri Passang Bhutia, Incharge, Old Age Home, Boomtar, and Inspectors, Women, Child, Senior Citizen & Divyagjan Welfare Department Namchi.
On 18th October, the Members of the Foundation carried out similar drive at Old Age Home, Saramsa, Ranipool. The President and Members of Sikkim Senior Citizens’ Foundation were joined by Shri Pemba Lepcha, Chief Engineer-cum-Nodal Officer, State Designated Agency, Power Department, Smt. Mani Kala Gurung, Social Welfare Officer, Gangtok, Smt. Asha Chettri Councilor Ranipool, Inspectors Women, Child, Senior Citizen & Divyangjan Welfare Department, Gangtok and Senior Citizens from Ranipool Area.
Along with the cleanliness and plantation drive, the Members of Sikkim Senior Citizen Foundation also held an awareness camp at both the venues to educate the participants comprising senior citizens from the areas on Maintenance of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007.
Likewise, the Sikkim Senior Citizens’ Foundation, in coordination with Women, Child, Senior Citizen and Divyangjan Welfare Department, under the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana conducted a Plantation drive under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ programme at Lee Aal Destitute Home in Upper Rakdong under Tumin Lingee constituency on 26th October, 2025.
The team, led by Shri KN Sharma, President SSCF, and accompanied by Members Dr. Vijay Singhi, Shri Hem Kumar Chhetri, Shri GD Giri and other members visited the Destitute Home and handed over essential items like rice, dal, edible oil etc. The items were handed over to Smt Passangkit Lepcha, the incharge of the Destitute Home, in the presence of the residents. The centre houses a total of 26 residents, EntBi comprising 9 females and 17 males.
The drive was part of the ongoing in initiative of Sikkim Senior Citizens’ Foundation to address the genuine needs of care giving centres, especially senior citizens, and spread awareness about the rights of Senior Citizens under the relevant Act.
