National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK)
The National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK) was constituted on 12th August, 1994 as a statutory body by an Act of Parliament viz. ‘National Commission for Safai Karamcharis Act, 1993’, for a period of three years i.e. up to 31st March, 1997.As per sub-section (4) of Section 1 of the Act, it was to cease to exist after 31.3.1997. However, validity of the Act was extended up to March, 2002, and then up to February, 2004 vide Amendment Acts passed in 1997 and 2001 respectively.

An Act to provide for the prohibition of employment as manual scavengers, rehabilitation of manual scavengers and their families, etc.
Suo Motu cognizance taken by the Commission in the cases of reported sewer deaths to make compensation payment as per Hon’ble Supreme Court Judgement 2014.

Leadership & Organisation
The Commission comprises a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson and five Members, supported by a Secretariat which includes the Administration and Research & Development section.

28 जून 2026 | चंडीगढ़-- NCSK के उपाध्यक्ष श्री हरदीप सिंह गिल ने चंडीगढ़ सेक्टर-26 स्थित बापूधाम कॉलोनी के भगवान वाल्मीकि आश्रम में वाल्मीकि समाज एवं सफाई कर्मचारियों के साथ प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेंद्र मोदी जी के 'मन की बात' कार्यक्रम का सामूहिक श्रवण किया। इस अवसर पर समाज में जनभागीदारी, सामाजिक जागरूकता एवं राष्ट्र निर्माण के संकल्प को और मजबूत करने का संदेश दिया गया।
27 जून 2026 | चंडीगढ़-- NCSK के उपाध्यक्ष श्री हरदीप सिंह गिल ने पंजाब के राज्यपाल एवं यूटी प्रशासक श्री गुलाब चंद कटारिया से मुलाकात कर सफाई कर्मचारियों की लंबित मांगों को लेकर ज्ञापन सौंपा। ज्ञापन में नियमितीकरण, पेंशन, सेवानिवृत्ति आयु में वृद्धि, वेतन संबंधी मुद्दों एवं वाल्मीकि भवन हेतु भूमि आवंटन सहित विभिन्न मांगों को प्रमुखता से उठाया गया। राज्यपाल ने संबंधित अधिकारियों के साथ शीघ्र बैठक कर आवश्यक कार्रवाई का आश्वासन दिया।
27 जून 2026 | नई दिल्ली-- राष्ट्रीय सफाई कर्मचारी आयोग के माननीय सदस्य श्री कर्म सिंह कर्मा जी ने मुंडका स्थित मारवाह प्रिंटर फैक्ट्री में सेप्टिक टैंक की सफाई के दौरान 26.06.2026 को जहरीली गैस की चपेट में आकर दिवंगत हुए सफाई कर्मचारी अरुण सिंह, चाँद एवं संदीप के परिजनों से मुलाकात कर शोक संवेदना व्यक्त की। इस अवसर पर एसडीएम मुंडका, एसीपी, एसएचओ एवं तहसीलदार मुंडका भी उपस्थित रहे। आयोग ने पीड़ित परिवारों को तत्काल ₹30 लाख मुआवजा, दोषियों के विरुद्ध सख्त कानूनी कार्रवाई तथा न्याय सुनिश्चित करने के निर्देश दिए।
